Final home game of the season

Today sees Colne making the trip to Surrey Street for the last home game of the season for the Hillmen.
We welcome the Colne F.C players, officials and fans that travel to follow their team to GNE today.
GNE will be hoping to bring the curtain down on their season with 3 points at home today and look to finish the season of with a couple of wins starting with today's game and the remaining fixture at Barnoldswick on Tuesday May 1st.
It looks like GNE will finish in 6th place in the league which is an improvement from last season's 14th and so i see it as a good stride forward and couple that with the improvements off the field and it has been a hugely satisfying season to be around Glossop North End.
The team has played some excellent football and were very serious contenders for the top spot right upto the last month or so of the season when results have dropped off.
Many people will have their opinion as to what has happened in the last month and why we have dropped points, my view is that the lads who turn out for GNE work jobs throughout the week and then try and play games at weekends and mid-week, this is somethng that must take its toll on you at some stage and it is my belief that the team were simply running out of steam.
We here the full time well paid pampered pro's complaining about the number of games they are expected to play and that player need a rest and this is seen as acceptable reasoning but when people say that our lads are exhausted it is difficult for some to accept.
May i take this opportunity to thank the coaching staff of both the first and reserve team's for the work done this season, also to every player who has pulled on a GNE shirt again both first and reserve teams a huge thank you for your effort and commitment to turn out week in and week out and keep us supporters entertained with some excellent football.
A special thanks to Trucca, Gareth and Woodsy for the fantastic work done with the youth set up and then the reserves, you can be very proud of the players you have developed in your time at GNE and good luck in what ever you all choose to do in the future.
Finally thank you to everyone who works around the ground,Rhona and Shifty and anyone else who helps in the bar,Wendy and Catherine for the legendary Piehut,Ballboys and of course the ground staff for producing a great surface to perform on.
Dont forget the presentation,s will take place after today's game then following on will be an end of season party, hope to see you all there.

Saturday, 7 April 2012

Today's visitors are St.Helens Town who come to Surrey Street to face a GNE side who are struggling to find a win.
Today is a day when everyone needs to pull together and do what ever we can to give the lads the confidence to go and express themselves and hopefully claim 3 points.
We as a club now need to stand up and prove our worth and show people we are a decent outfit and that we are as good as our earlier league position suggested.
I hold my hands up and will say i as many others did not clap the lads off on Wednesday and for what its worth iam not impressed with my behaviour on 2 counts.
Firstly our lads try their best and sometimes it just does not work out for reasons no one knows, secondly Bacup Borough came to our place and earned a very creditable victory and we should have at least given them the respect they deserved and i for one appologise to our lads and everyone at Bacup for not applauding at the end of the game.
Top 4 is still achievable and would give us the benefit of going straight into the first round propar of the F.A.Vase so we still have something to push for,it will be difficult but we have enough about us as a club to get there.
I hope to see as many of you at the game today and hope we can play our part in getting 3 points.
Good luck to Trucca and the lads in the reserves who travel to Maine Road today.

Away at Silsden

Well its Saturday and GNE's 1st team will be making the journey to Keighley Road the home of Silsden F.C.
GNE will be looking to carry on where they left off on Wednesday night when they showed every quality you want in a team, quality, work ethic and togetherness.
GNE sit 3rd in the league going into this game and i know that us as supporters we are so proud that at this late stage of a season we are talking of a genuine chance of getting promotion.
We are allowed to get excited but must remember we as supporters have a role to play in this promotion batle, we must give uncoditional support to the team and officials no matter what and must always remain positive.
For those not travelling away to Silsden today our reserves have a home game against Cheadle Town at Surrey Street in the Reserve Cup with a 3 oclock kick off.
So come down and cheer our lads on in a Cup match and you never know you may plat a part in giving the lads a boost that could see them get to yet another final.
The Reserves had a difficult start to the season but what an effort to get themselves back up the table and still be looking to win a trophy.
Finally if one Cup match at Surrey Street is not enough the GNE Ladies team have a game at Surrey Street on Sunday when they will play in the Semi Final of the Derbyshire Cup.
Kick Off for this game is 13.30.
What an effort by the ladies to be in such a position and have a great chance of reaching a Cup Final, so if you can make it down on Sunday im sure the girls would appreciate all the support they can get.
For more info on the ladies please visit www.gneladies.co.uk or you can follow them on twitter @GNELadiesFC
Good luck to all our teams in their games and lets hope we get three wins this weekend.

Todays games

Today see's GNE's first team travel to Padiham's Arbories Memorial Sports Ground, both teams going into this match on the back of victories last time out.
Padiham having won 0-3 away at Stone Dominoes and GNE's 2-1 home win against Ashton Athletic.
Although the second half performance by GNE was not great last weekend the lads came away with the 3 points and that is all we wanted.Points is what its about now and if you can get maximum points when you don't play your best can't be a bad thing.
For those who are not travelling to Padiham GNE reserves have a home game against Irlam reserves and the lads will be looking to get back to winning ways having been edged out in midweek at New Mills.
Im sure Trucca and the lads would appreciate the support if you can get over to Surrey Street for the 3 oclock kick off and of course there will be a warm welcome from the ladies in the pie hut.
Good luck to both our teams today in there games.

GNE play Ashton Athletic

GNE welcome the players, officials and supporters of Ashton Athletic to Surrey Street this afternoon for a league encounter.
Ashton will be looking to bounce back from their defeat in mid-week in the league challenge cup where they went down 1-3 at home to Bacup Borough, this came on the back of a 3-1 defeat away at Winsford last Saturday.
GNE should be fresh after no game in mid-week and they will be looking to build on last weeks very good win away at Congleton Town.
GNE will hope to keep the pressure on the teams above them, those teams have had some strange results recently which will hopefully give the lads something to aim for and who knows what can and will happen in the run in.
Pressure can have a massive effect on football matches and at this stage of a season at any level and some teams will cope better than others, hopefully GNE with the backing of its legendary supporters will stand up well when the going gets tough.
One thing no team can have any wories about is the playing surface at GNE, the pitch is is fantastic condition and a massive well done to the team who have done a great job keeping the playing surface in such amazing shape at this late stage of the season.
Good luck to Paul and the lads today and hope to see as many of you there.

Player of the Month

Because there were only 2 games in February the SC Committee decided it would be best to include these games in the award for March. So when it comes to voting at the end of March you will have to get those brain cells working and remember who played well in February too!

Congleton Town

This weekend see's the Hillmen travel to Congleton Town's Ivory Gardens for a league game.
Congleton lie 13th in the league and managed a 3 -3 draw away at Silsden last time out so GNE should be confident in getting something out of the game.
For those who can not travel to watch GNE the Twitter and HighPeak and Tameside radio are the places to get match updates from GNE's very own Tim Barnett.
Good luck to the lads.

Pre-season friendlies

The club have announced three pre-season friendlies: Bala Town on Saturday 14th July at home, Markse United on Saturday 21st July away and Whitley Bay on Saturday 28th July at home. These are all excellent games for the club and the supporters. Will the visit of Bala Town be the first time a club from another country has visited us? An away day (or week-end) at the seaside should appeal to lots of us, especially after the trip to Whitley Bay a couple of seasons ago. Then the long anticipated visit of Whitley Bay and the chance to rekindle some old acquaintances (fisheye to name one) and make some new ones. So book these dates in you dairies and on your calenders, it should be a fun three weeks.

Ashton Athletic

Today GNE and the travelling army of supporters were at Ashton Athletic for a league encounter.
Firstly well done to Ashton Athletic for managing to get the game on today although i bet they wish they had not bothered as GNE ran out 4 - 0 winners.
Sam Hind scored a hat trick and Steve Heaton scored from a free kick outside the box for our other goal on a wind swept day.
A great result today in difficult conditions and 4 goals thrown in for good measure.
I attended the reserves today at Surrey Street and this was a decent game with both sides trying their best to play football in trying conditions.
The reserves finished 1 - 1 against a good Padiham side,Glossop's goal coming from a free kick outside the box from Danny Jones that should not have beaten the Padiham keeper.padiham then equalised in the final minute of the first half with a penalty.

Saturday 14th January - Stone Doms visit Surrey Street!

Tomorrow sees the visit of Stone Dominoes to Surrey Street, and after watching all the teams above us win last Saturday (whilst we were potponed), this becomes a 'must win' game for the Hillmen.
Stone currently lie 18th in the NWCFL, but ran leaders Bootle close last time out.
Another bonus for spectators is that 'Super' Sam Hind will be presented with both his Supporters Club and NWC player of the month awards so get down early to give him a clap!!!!!

GNE report for the festive period

GNE have not had the best of times over the festive period.
First up GNE played Barnoldswick Town at home and played excellent in beating one of the high flyers of the division 2-1.
GNE controlled the game for long spells and proved they can beat anyone on their day.
Next came a home game against Maine Road in which there was not much to cheer about coming away with a 1-1 draw and this could have been worse except for some excellent goal keeping.
Finally came an away game at Alsager and GNE struggled by all accounts and came away on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline so in all we took just 1 point from the 3 games in the festive period.
Heres hoping the New Year proves to be a turning point and brings an upturn in fortumes for the team.
Happy New Year to everyone

Player of the Month - December

For the 2nd month in a row congratulations are due to Sam Hind on becoming the Supporters Club Player of the Month.

Sam will be presented with his award at the home game with Stone Dominoes on the 14th of January,
