New date for New Mills (A)

Monday 22nd of February at Church Lane

Bacup Borough OFF

Todays game against Bacup Borough has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.

SC Member attacked by club Director

In a very worrying turn of events, a club Director has responded to criticism of his role by physically attacking a member of the Supporters Club . The attack took place in The Friendship last Monday and was witnessed by many of the pubs regulars, including a member of the SC committee. Fortunately the member is ok.

Don't our Directors understand their responsibilities? Don't they realise that, whether they like it or not, they represent the football club at all times, even when p****d in the pub!

Hopefully this matter will be raised by the SC committee with the club at the first opportunity.

Radcliffe Borough progress in Manchester Premier Cup

Radcliffe Borough beat Salford 6-2 on wednesday night to set up a home quarter final against Chadderton next Tuesday. The winners of that tie will join GNE, Trafford and Droylsden in the semis.

Tuesday 26 January 2010

No player award this month

As was the case in December, the SC committee have decided there were insufficient games in January to justy awarding a 'Player of the Month'.
Hopefully we can get back to normal in February.

The Bloods join GNE and Trafford in the semis

Droylsden joined GNE and Trafford in the semi finals of the Manchester Premier Cup tonight with a comfortable 2-0 victory over a 9 man Curzon Ashton - 2 Ashton players got sent off at the same time!
The last semi spot is between Salford City, Radcliffe Borough and Chadderton but it may be some time before we find out.

GNE fail to submit application for promotion

The latest information from the FA would suggest that GNE have not submitted an application for promotion this season. The applications, which needed to be in by December 31st, list the following teams from the Vodkat Premier Division;

Bootle
Congleton
New Mills
Newcastle Town
Ramsbottom Utd

Whilst not a great surprise it is disappointing to note that this time last year we had submitted an application and were making plans to address the neccessary ground grading issues. Now 12 months later, with the Vase money in the bank, not only have we not seen ANY improvement in facilities but we are obviously not going to see any any time soon.

AFC Liverpool replay date set

The date for the Vodkat League 3rd round replay has been set for Wednesday 3rd February at Prescott Cables ground Valerie Park (L34 6ND).
The Supporters Club will be looking at running at minibus to the match and further details will be found on the messageboard.

This means that the away game at Atherton LR, that had been re-arranged for Tuesday the 2nd February, has now been postponed.

Vodkat League Challenge Cup Draw

The draw for the quarter finals of the Vodkat League Challenge Cup was made after the Winsford United v Bacup Borough game and is as follows.

Abbey Hey v Daisy Hill or New Mills

Irlam or Bootle v Newcastle Town

St Helens Town v Wigan Robin Park

Winsford United v Glossop North End or AFC Liverpool

No dates as yet have been arranged for the ties.

GNE 0 AFC Liverpool 0

A combination of poor finishing and excellent defending, some of it desperate, saw todays League Cup 3rd round tie end goalless. On a different day the game could have ended in a comfortable home win but credit must go to AFC who dug in, especially in the 2nd half.

Without a matchday programme and no announcement over the tannoy many in the crowd were surprised to see the game go to extra time and then even more so when no penalties taken. As per league rules, the game now goes to a replay.

Just to add even more confusion rumours were quickly going around the clubhouse the replay would be in Liverpool this coming Wednesday, then it was to be replayed at Surrey Street on Wednesday then it wasn't going to be replayed this week at all.

Anyone wondering whatever happened to Billy Smart, he's alive and well and living in Glossop!

Vodkat League Cup

GNE face AFC Liverpool on Saturday in the 3rd round of the Vodkat League Cup.
After starting the season well AFC have struggled for consistency but are still chasing promotion to the Premier division. They are also threatening to bring 'a large number of vocal supporters' so it should be a good atmosphere.
After last nights victory it can't come soon enough.

Wednesday 20 January 2010

GNE 2 Mossley 1

Two first half goals from Darren Hamilton (assist from the Mossley keeper) and Rick Bailey were enough to see GNE through to the semi final of the Manchester Premier Cup.

Joining us in the semis tonight are Trafford who comfortably beat Hyde Utd 3-0.

There is still one 1st round match to be played, Salford City v Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday the 26th Jan, the winner to play at home to Chadderton in the quarters.
The remaining quarter final tie is Curzon Ashton v Droylsden which will be played on Monday the 25th of January.

The semi finals are due to be played w/c February 15th which will mean the re-arranged game with New Mills will need to be re-arranged one more time.

Monday 18 January 2010

Fingers crossed!

If things go according to plan we might just have some footy to watch on Wednesday night. A pitch inspection is planned for Wednesday afternoon and details will be posted as soon as we know.

Sorry...official confirmation that the game was on only came through about 5pm which was too late to update the blog. Ah well.....

Upcoming events

The absence of any football has made the SC committee look to the future for entertainment opportunities. The following events are now at the development stages...

Fancy Dress Away Day

As 'proper' football teams do, GNE supporters are going to have the chance to make complete fools of themselves before the season is out. The intention is to have the last but one away game as our fancy dress event of the year. As of today this will be Ashton Athletic but this may not be the case in a few months. All supporters travelling to the game will be encouraged to enter into the spirit of the event and, lets face it, most of us will need some spirits before we put on our costumes!

Congleton away

As of today Congleton will be our last away game of the season so this is going to be our 'train' game. We expect the cost to be around £10 per person and more details will be announced nearer the time.

End of season Party

Sometime in May there will be an 'End of Season Party'. The format will be similar to the Christmas Party and, again, more details will be made available once we've got them.

If anyone is interested in taking part in, or helping organize, any of the above events please leave comments below.

Colne game ''very doubtful''

According to the Colne website their pitch is still under 8-9 inches of snow and the approach to the stadium is treacherous. Looks like another football free Satuday coming up!

Tuesday 12 January 2010

New date for Mossley cup match

The Manchester Premier Cup match against Mossley has been re-arranged for next Wednesday, the 20th of January.

Monday 11 January 2010

Mossley game OFF

Wednesdays Manchester Premier Cup game with Mossley has had to be postponed because of the weather.

Sunday 10 January 2010

Mossley game in doubt

A decision will be made on Monday as to whether Wednesdays Manchester Premier Cup game with Mossley can go ahead. News will be posted here as soon as we have it.

Tuesday 5 January 2010

Runcorn game in doubt

And the Mossley game, and the Colne game, and the AFC Liverpool game.....

Sunday 3 January 2010

Friday 1 January 2010

Happy New Year from the SC

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all from the Supporters Club.

It is now half way through the league programme - well, it would have been if the last couple of matches had not been postponed - and the Supporters Club can look back on a successful start.

First of all, many thanks to all who have joined the Supporters Club and made it the success which it certainly has been so far - we are now 100 members.

We trust that all members have participated in and enjoyed the activities associated with being a Supporters Club member. These include:-

* Access to the exclusive Supporters Club Blog which contains lots of information and comment not found anywhere else.
* Vote in the Supporters Club Player of the Month poll.
* Regular-ish Newsletters full of information relating to the Club.
* Discounted admission to events such as the recent, highly successful, Christmas Party in the Clubhouse.
* Priority booking for travel to away matches.

And, the most prized possession of all Supporters Club members, the exclusive Supporters Club lapel badge.

In addition to this, the Supporters Club work to improve the profile of GNE by fixture flyer distribution, the Facebook site and the building of good relations with every club we visit as the best supported team in our league.

Although we have a network of willing volunteers - and thanks to each and every one of you, we are always looking for members who are able to help to achieve the aims of the Supporters Club which, by definition, also goes to help the Football Club in a variety of ways.

Recognising that we have now reached the half way point of the season, the Supporters Club are happy to announce that new members can get involved for half of the full season price - yes, a really genuine half price offer.

As of January 1st, the membership fee for the remainder of the 2009/10 season will be £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.

Memberships forms will be available from the Supporters Club table in the Clubhouse at all home games - starting with the Ramsbottom game on Saturday - weather permitting.

So, if anyone out there who is not yet a member of the Supporters Club wishes to join us and take advantage of all of the benefits of membership - there will be some new benefits coming along, we just haven't thought of them all yet - please join us and help to support the mighty GNE.

Lets all look forward to a successful 2010, both on and off the pitch, together.

Ramsbottom Utd game POSTPONED

Unfortunately the game against Ramsbottom this coming Saturday has been lost to the weather. Not a great surprise and it's good to get an early decision.
This means the next game will be at home on Saturday the 9th Jan against Runcorn Linnets

New date for New Mills

The twice postponed Premier League game against New Mills has now been re-arranged for MONDAY 15TH FEBRUARY at Church Lane.

The trouble is the next round of the Derbyshire Cup (which NM's are in) and the semi finals of the Manchester Premier Cup (which we're in) are both scheduled for w/c 15th of February. This means there is a very good chance this re-arranged game will need to be re-arranged once again.
