GNE fail to submit application for promotion
The latest information from the FA would suggest that GNE have not submitted an application for promotion this season. The applications, which needed to be in by December 31st, list the following teams from the Vodkat Premier Division;
Bootle
Congleton
New Mills
Newcastle Town
Ramsbottom Utd
Whilst not a great surprise it is disappointing to note that this time last year we had submitted an application and were making plans to address the neccessary ground grading issues. Now 12 months later, with the Vase money in the bank, not only have we not seen ANY improvement in facilities but we are obviously not going to see any any time soon.

Agreed - not a great surprise. As we had the grading visit last season then I guess we know what needs to be done to move up to the next level. As it seems that nothing has been done, apart from a lot of "tidying up" in the summer, then we could imagine that it was never the intention to apply for promotion this time round.

ReplyDeleteWhen we applied for promotion in 2008-9 season we had no money but what seemed like a real desire to improve. Now, 12 months later, we have the money but seem to have lost the desire. Or was last years application just a sham to placate supporters, players and management??

ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to hear Steve Youngs comments on the clubs non-application.
ReplyDeleteWhile his stated ambition is to take North End to that next level, Young admits he understands the reasoning behind North End’s failure to apply.
"It doesn’t surprise me but I think we have to be sensible about it," he said. "I think people have read too much into what I’ve been saying.
"I’ve been saying that we want to be a UniBond League club but I think there’s a difference between wanting to be one and being geared towards going into that competition.
Sounds like Steve has given up any hope of achieving Unibon status with GNE. Is this the start of the end?
