The new season gets a step closer on Thursday with the start of pre-season training.
If it follows the pattern of previous years, the players will meet at the ground before 'jogging' up to Cemetery Road for their first full session.
July 1st should also see the start of player registrations (if the paperwork has arrived) so we should start getting confirmation of who has stayed, arrived and left.

Steve Brackenridge joins GNE
Finally, news of a player who may be joining GNE rather than leaving - midfielder Steve Brackenridge.
Steve is already well known by many at the club, both from his time with Glossop Juniors and through his company Peak Active Sports. His previous clubs include Macclesfield Town, Hyde Utd and Mossley but more recently he has played in the NWCFL for Salford City and New Mills.
Hopefully, confirmation will follow shortly.

Steve Young's talking £££'s again....
GNE Manager Steve Young has once again been discussing the clubs finances with the local press.
This weeks Glossop Advertiser quotes Steve saying "The wage cut will be looked at after 15 or 20 games next season, and if the board feels we aren’t challenging for the title, they’re going to cut it again. They initially gave us a figure to work with which myself and Terry thought was totally unreasonable, so they came back with an increased figure – but they’ll look at it part-way through the season. That’s something that a lot of the clubs in our league do if they don’t feel they’re going to challenge for honours."
No further information has yet been provided as to how the club will raise the funds required to meet the increased budget, should GNE get off to flyer.

Vodkat League Constitution 2010-11
The constitution of the League for season 2010-11 will be discussed at the League AGM on Saturday 19th June.
The following Club applications have been received and all are recommended by the Management Committee for Membership of the League for season 2010/11. However, all are subject to Football Association clarification.
Rossendale United (Step 4) - Relegated from the Northern Premier League
Chester * - Recommended by The Football Association to be placed at Step 5
A.F.C. Darwen ** (Step 7) - West Lancashire League
Runcorn Town ** (Step 7) - West Cheshire League
West Didsbury & Chorlton *** - Manchester League
In order for Chester* to be placed at Step 5, The Football Association are required to approve an increase in numbers of the Premier Division for one season to 23 Clubs and also approve the relegation of 3 Clubs at the end of season 2010/11.
If this is a recommendation the Member Clubs will be required to decide by a vote as to whether to increase the Premier Division to 23 Clubs for one season and relegate 3 Clubs at the end of season 2010/11.
If this is an instruction of The Football Association no vote will be required.
In the event of any such vote proving no, Chester* would be placed in the First Division.
A.F.C. Darwen** and Runcorn Town** are current Members of the Step 7 Division of their respective Leagues, but have not finished in a promotion position, so automatic promotion is not applicable. Both League's have notified The Football Association of their support for the Clubs promotion to the NWCFL. The Football Association have notified that they also are happy to support their promotion to the NWCFL. Both Clubs have passed the minimum entry criteria.
West Didsbury & Chorlton*** are not currently in the Step 7 Division of the Manchester League. The Football Association have not received any such confirmation from the Manchester League. The Club would be required to produce confirmation of planning permission, funding and contract completion date for the erection of floodlights. These items would be required prior to the Annual General Meeting as per National League System Regulations.
Their application may be subject to the Club submitting an appeal to the Football Association.

Is Danny Next?
There is a possibility GNE may be losing captain Danny Yates next season
Danny's work commitments may be taking him down to London, which will be a massive blow. Since returning from Trafford Danny has been an ever present in the side and took over the captains responsibilities last season. He was awarded the Players Player of the Year Award and he just missed out on the Supporters Award.
More news will be posted as we get it.

Adrian Priestley resigns as a GNE Director
Disappointingly, Adrian Priestley has resigned his post as Director of Glossop North End.
'I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped and supported me throughout my time as a Glossop North End Director.'
'May I also say that it has been an honour and a privilege to have served this great Football Club, for so many years and it goes without saying that I wish the Club every possible success for the future and all those connected with it.'
Although Adrian has talked about quitting the board for some time it is shame it has come about following disagreements with the team management. He deserved much better.
His resignation does give the club a big problem. The board are now down to only 4 members and they will struggle to meet their responsibilities unless numbers are increased.

Bailey and Young to leave GNE
High Peak Radio have confirmed that the club have reached agreement with Steve Young on his playing budget for the 2010/11 season.
They are also reporting Rick Bailey, Dave Young and Martin Parker are leaving GNE but this should not come as a surprise. Most people expected Rick and Dave to be looking elsewhere as they both believe they could hold down a spot at a higher level and had intimated that last season was going to be their last. The news about Martin going to FC United broke last week.
We look forward to seeing who will be brought in to fill the gaps.
