New Manager for GNE

This is the full press release issued today.

Glossop North End can announce that they have appointed Paul Colgan as their new first team manager. The selection process has taken place over the last two weeks, and the board of Directors selected Colgan at a meeting on Sunday evening.
About Paul Colgan
Manchester based Paul Colgan has been coaching for 18 years, since his own playing career was brought to a premature end at the age of 23 due to a leg injury. He started out coaching in youth leagues and subsequently coached at a higher level year upon year, until taking charge of Atherton LR 1st team in 2005/06. Since then he has gone on to manage Hyde United’s reserve team (2006 to 2009) and Curzon Ashton’s reserve team (until 2010). Last season he took over as manager at Rossendale United, but ended up taking on many roles at the club in addition as the entire support staff of the club walked out in December 2010. It wasn’t until February 2011, when a game had to be postponed because the ground’s utilities had been cut off that he felt his position was untenable. He won many plaudits from Rossendale people for his attitude and coaching of a young team, and for his resilience in the face of what was widely acknowledged to be an almost impossible working environment at Rossendale last season.
Paul will bring with him his coaching team of Paul Williams as Assistant manager and Darren Green as coach. He has already obtained some of his UEFA coaching badges and is working on the next level.

Quotes from Paul Colgan
I’d like to thank the directors for giving me the opportunity to manage Glossop North End. I’m really looking forward to working closely with everybody at the club to maintain and hopefully build on the solid foundation that’s been established by the directors, previous management team, and the squad.
Whilst it’s inevitable that players will move on, I will be looking to retain the existing squad, but will also take the opportunity to freshen up the club with a few new players. The club has a terrific ground with a good pitch, excellent and improving facilities, a thriving reserve and great youth system -everything that's required to provide a platform for good footballers to develop further, enjoy their football and take this club to the next level.Paul, Darren and I will bring a wealth of experience and we are confident that we will deliver quality football for Glossop supporters, but we also want our squad to play with a smile on their face. We’ve heard that the club’s fans not only set out to enjoy their football, but help the team to enjoy theirs too, and I am looking forward to joining with them to ensure that this remains a club to be proud of, and a winning one at that.

Quotes from Glossop North End Chairman Dave Atkinson
We are delighted to appoint Paul to our First Team Manager’s position and welcome him to the club. We were really impressed with his enthusiasm for the position and with him having experience of managing at this level of football should ensure a smooth transition. Paul also has good experience of working with young players which I think makes him the perfect fit to the club’s existing structure, as we try to use our reserve side and our links with Glossop North End juniors to provide Glossop lads the chance to play for their local side.

The decision was an incredibly difficult one for the board of Directors to make, as we had applications from some very impressive candidates.

However, in particular the Directors would like to express their gratitude to Terry Hincks for his contribution over the last four years and particularly for the professional approach shown over the last quarter of the season in his role of Caretaker Manager following the departure of Steve Young. Terry and Steve were instrumental in the progress of Glossop North End, and the club, and I’m sure its supporters, would like to wish them both all the very best for the future.

The future for Glossop North End though is with Paul Colgan, and I very much look forward to working with him and developing this club further as we celebrate our 125th anniversary.
