Good performance in defeat by a GNE side who were never overawed by the opposition. County came with a full first team squad for their last pre-season match with new Manager Paul Simpson looking to finalise his starting XI.
Given that the opposition on the day will play in a league five levels above us, and are full time professional players, there were some great positives to come out of this match for GNE.
County start their league programme away at Southend and GNE start away at Padiham - quite a contrast!!!
As one County fan was heard to say when leaving the ground "Hope to see you again in the first round of the Cup". Well, that would be nice of course but the very least we have done in the pre-season matches is to continue to develop relationships between our club and all the others we play either home or away. Excellent.

High Peak Cup
It was all action at Surrey Street last night as GNE defeated Chapel Town 4-1 in the semi-final of the High Peak Cup.
Chapel Town took the lead on 7 minutes with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area. GNE equalised before half-time with a low shot from Alex Elliot.
As the match wore on, the Chapel Town side seemed to fade somewhat and GNE secured the victory with second half goals from Garry Kharas, Adam Oakes and a penalty converted by Jamie Kay.
As Buxton beat New Mills 2-0 in the other semi-final played on Tuesday night, Glossop will now play Buxton at Silverlands in the final next Wednesday. The 3rd/4th place play off will be next Tuesday when Chapel Town take on New Mills

Pre-Season Friendly (3) GNE 0 FC United 0
Not all 0-0 draws are boring. Wednesday night saw a very attractive match at Surrey Street against a side featuring one of our regulars from last season, Martin Parker. Defensively, GNE looked to be very well organised but even when FC United threatened the home goal, Stuart Williams was again in good form. Having said that, some work needs to be done on the links going forward to bring Garry Kharas more into the game.
Although the side with all of the new signings are still coming together, this was a promising display. Looking forward to the next match.
Ohh Martin Parker....

Pre-Season Friendly (2) - Whitley Bay 1 GNE 0
Glossops trip to The Bay ended in defeat, losing to a goal late on in the 2nd half.
Holidays, injuries and other commitments meant GNE took a very young squad to the North East and their preparations were not helped by the coach turning up an hour late! Their delayed arrival at the ground meant the kick-off was put back to nearer 3.30.
From memory, the starting XI was;
Williams
Smallwood
Pearson
Lugsden
Lomax
Trucca
Elliott
Brackenridge
Jones
Hussein (?)
Trennery
The subs included Nick Allen who worked in the morning and then made the journey up by car.
Despite their poor preparations, and having to play against a very strong wind in the 1st half, GNE more than held their own. Danny Jones played up front on his own (or at least that's what it looked like!) and was a real handful - he should have had a penalty mid-way through the half when he was pulled back in the penalty back after he'd turned the defender.
The talk amongst the supporters at half time was that we'd done the hard work and could look to play with the wind in our favour in the 2nd. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out as hoped.
As the changes were made after the break, with subs rolling on and off, Whitley Bay took control. The only enforced sub was Trucca having to come off with another nasty facial injury - his cheekbone coming off worse after a clash with an opponents elbow. Not the first time we've seen Trucca leave the pitch with blood streaming from his face and probably not the last!
Although Stuart Williams kept us in the game with a couple of excellent full length saves it was no surprise when Waite popped up with a header late on to give the home side the win.
Overall there were some really strong performances and, despite Steve Young being disappointed in the goal, we defended really well. Mike Lomax again impressed.
The crowd was given as 417, of which nearly 100 travelled from Glossop. An excellent effort and, especially for those who stayed over in Whitley Bay, a great day out.

Full fixtures released
Although not yet released by the NWCFL a full list of Glossop North End's fixtures can be found on Mitoo.
As seems to be the norm, the derbies with New Mills fall on the Bank Holiday weekends of Christmas (H) and Easter (A).
Disappointingly, our last game of the season will again be away from home, although a trip to the seaside and Squires Gate does have some appeal.

Whitley Bay - Bring it on
Saturday sees Glossop North End's first pre-season away game and what a day it should be....
The 70+ coach is almost full and the Hoolie Van has been full for weeks. We have 35 supporters staying overnight in The Bay in a mixture of hotels, tents and sand dunes!
In total, we're looking at taking around 100 supporters for a friendly game over 3 hours away that means absolutely nothing...Viva GNE!
So long as the Sambucca behaves itself the Supporters Cub will be posting regular updates on Twitter so please follow us to see what you are missing.

Pre-Season Friendly (1) - GNE 2 Curzon 2
In the first pre-season game of the 2010/11 season GNE were held to a 2-2 draw by Curzon Ashton of the Evo-Stick North.
Curzon led at half time 1-0 but the changes by both teams at half time seemed to favour North End and it was no surprise to see Glossop equalise through Danny Jones, mid-way through the 2nd half.....from a Jay Gorton cross!!
Against the run of play, Curzon went in front soon afterwards but Adam Trennery came on to equalise and also had a great chance to win it with the last kick of the game but his shot went inches wide.
Definitely a good day for GNE, a good performance, a good crowd of +160 and the sun shone brightly on the new dugouts!

Easyfundraising update
Last season the Supporters Club raised over £500 through the Easyfundraising scheme, which has more than covered the costs of the new dugouts.
This was achieved with 35 registered users and we thank everyone who supported the scheme throughout the year. If you know anyone who makes purchases on line, for just about anything from just about anywhere, ask them to register with Easyfundraising. It costs nothing, only takes a minute and it will have a big impact on our football club.

New Dugouts
At the Supporters Club General Meeting in May our members voted to use some of the funds we raised last season to build new dugouts. Whilst we still have some work to complete in the area, the dugouts themselves are finished.
The good news is these have been completed before the first pre-season game and have come in under budget.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped out with the demolition, digging, bricking, roofing and painting. They look great and are a massive improvement on what we had.
