GNE 3 Blackstones 1 (aet)

Glossop North End stumbled into the next round of the FA Vase with a 3-1 victory over Blackstones.

After a dull 1st half that wasn't helped by Jamie Kaye missing a penalty, Blackstones took the lead 10 minutes in to the 2nd. Then, with Glossop looking out of it and The Trenches getting restless, new signing Anthony Dorney levelled with a clever back heel to take the game into extra time.

After an uneventful 1st 15 minutes, and with penalties looming, Adam Oakes broke through the middle and calmly slotted the ball under keeper to make it 2-1. Blackstones chased an equaliser and left gaps at the back which Johnny Hussain exploited in the last minute to make it 3-1, a scoreline which flattered GNE.

Glossop will now face Gedling Town away in the 1st round proper on Saturday 2nd October.

  1. Trying to take the positives from last night. Uppermost, obviously, is that we are through to the next round. So what else?

I thought Joe Heap looked really good on the left, and Oakesy gave us a clue as to what might happen if played him centrally. Dorney did ok but wasn't nowhere near match fit imho.

    Erm.

    Any more?

  2. Agreed, Oakesy looks far more comfortable when playing inside and Joe Heap looked the part.

I thought Jay and Kelvin played well together and the communication between them and the keeper was good. And McIlwaine again impressed.

On the down side, our starting XI was different again, Kharas continues to struggle and Trucca's tackling isn't getting any better.

And I wasn't impressed that our 2 unused subs didn't stay to support the team. So much for team spirit.
