Maine Rd 2 GNE 1

Another lacklustre performance saw GNE slip to their 3rd consecutive away league defeat, although they did at least manage an away league goal!

Maine Rd started the brighter and had 2 chances to take the lead inside the 1st minute! Unfortunately, it was no great surprise when they took the lead on 10 minutes, a lead they could easily have added to before the break. The talking point of the 1st half was an awful challenge by Trucca which somehow, thankfully, failed to do serious damage to his Maine Rd opponent - it would have been a straight red 99 times out of 100 but tonight it was just yellow.

The 2nd half continued much as the 1st with McIlwaine making good saves and the woodwork stopping the rest. Then, with most people looking elsewhere, GNE levelled! After breaking up an attack the keeper went to kick the ball upfield but, as the ball came out of the keepers hands, Barker nipped in to nick it and roll it into an empty net.

Just as we thought the hard work had been done and Glossop were going to get something out of the game, in the very last minute GNE conceded a free kick around 30 yards out. Sure enough, it was buried into the bottom right corner and Maine Rd, deservedly, took all 3 points.

Hey, there's always Saturday...
