Droylsden game ABANDONED
A game that really shouldn't have started became a farce as the rain continued to pour down. In the end, we did well to get through 50 minutes before the refereee called an end to proceedings. Droylsden were 1 up at the time.
Now for the interesting bit. Everyone expected the game to be called off at half time but incredibly the players came out for the 2nd half and played for a further 5 minutes. Why not call it half time? It wouldn't have anything to do with the stories doing the rounds at the end that as the 2nd half had kicked off spectators would not be entitled to a refund if the match was abandoned? Surely not.
It was bad enough that Droylsden were allowed to charge their full admission price of £10 for the competition and it would nothing short of scandalous if they get away with not at least offering fans a reduction for any re-arranged game.

all I can tell you is that it was 100% the referee's call, with no pressure to bear from anyone. The rain stopped prior to the warm ups, and started again 15 minutes before kick off. At this point it was playable, and had it stopped at half time, we would probably have finished.
ReplyDeleteWill advise on a new date asap. I will be pressing for 1/2 price entry at the next game when I speak to Droylsden tomorrow.
Now call me an old cynic but didn't the refereee speak to both managers at half time? If so, isn't the Droylsden manager also the Droylsden owner and therefore someone who would have a vested interest in starting the 2nd half?
ReplyDeleteEither way, it was very impressive that there were more GNE fans in the ground than that of a team from 3 leagues above us. We must find a way of getting a similar number there for the re-arranged game.
You're an old cynic
